Today is my Dad's birthday.
My dad is so one of a kind that it is incredible. He is the best Dad that anyone could ever ask for, and here are just a few reasons that he is so special to me.
My Dad is the most honest man that I know. He taught us from before we could talk that lying was just not something that we do, it was not acceptable, and then continued to teach us from example, daily.
He is a man of integrity. He has worked hard for every accomplishent that he has ever made, and did it honestly. He has given up many things so that the four of us, and my Mom, could live the life that he provided us with. We have never had to go without, not even once, and I know that is because my Dad had to go without.
My dad is the definition of trustworthy. If he says he is going to do something, he does it. Just as he said he would, when he said he would do it.
If my father tells you something, he means it, if he does not like you, you know it, and if he loves you, you never question it.
I had the opportunity to work with my Dad, for several months, we shared an office and it was one of the neatest things. I got to be with my dad every day, watching him interact with people, work with people, and watch him be the example of everything that he had ever taught me up to that point. I know he was not aware of the many times that I was watching every detail of his day, every move that he made, and being so proud and grateful that he was my Dad, and that I got to work with him.
When we were younger, we had dates with our dad. There were four weeks in a month, and four children, so once a month, we got to go on a date with our Pops. He would take us to do whatever we wanted, go where ever we wanted, and get anything that our hearts desired. My favorite thing to do on my date with my dad was to go on a ride, and just talk. I remember numerous conversations like they were yesterday, we would talk about things that were going on in school, our friends, our "crushes", our fears, and things that made us happy. My dad was there to listen, and give advice. Those were some of the most memorable talks. I still remember advice given to me on those rides. Advice that I still use to this day, and I am so glad that my Dad took the time out of his week to make special one on one time for us.
My Dad is extremely loyal. There are more examples of him being loyal that I could ever put down in a post. Once he is your friend, he is your friend for life.
My dad loves my Mom, he adores her. They are a great example of how opposites attract. Their working hard on their marriage taught me that your marriage is everything, and that you take time out for each other, to serve each other, laugh with each other, and to just be a couple. You work hard together, and you love each other. They are such a great example of love and marriage, and I am glad that I got to witness that growing up, and now as I have a marriage of my own.
My dad is a fighter in every sense of the word.
I used to think that my Dad could tell the future, and predict things. In fact, I still do. If you ask my Dad something, and he gives you an answer, you can pretty much bet that it is going to happen...it is, well, kind of magic.
He honors his Priesthood. There have been several times where I have needed a fathers blessing, for what ever reason, and he has always been there. After the blessing you always get a hug, and that seems to make everything alright.
I love My Dad. I love him for who he is, and how he helped shape me into who I am. Growing up, my Dad worked hard to teach us the things that we were to do, so that we could be the people we needed to be. I am grateful for that. I am grateful that he is my Pops, and I hope that he has a wonderful birthday.
I love you Pops! Thanks for being the best Dad in the whole wide world!
Happy Birthday!
